This is a handy troubleshooting aid as you can easily (1) signal trace to the bad tube, (2) make voltage measurements to determine which circuit (plate, screen, grid, etc.) is unhappy, and then (3) make resistance measurements to find the bad component. In a totally inoperative radio, especially one with a short in the power supply, it's may not be unreasonably to dispense with signal tracing, and measure all the resistances to localize trouble. This is particularly true when there aren't a large number of tube involved. If you're fortunate enough to have tube-socket adapters, you can easily determine tube pin numbers, and make measurements from the top of the chassis. I just spent some time generating a V-R chart from my working Atwater Kent AK-55C. This was part of the aftermath of last Saturday's Repair Clinic. Let me know if you'd like a copy. Al -- Al Klase ? For I while now, if I need something, I start with E-bay. I've also discovered that buying components from China and Hong Kong via ebay is entirely practical. A typical vendor will stick the item in a padded envelope, and throw it in the mail. You'll have it in 10-12 days. There's apparently no such thing a import duties, and PayPal walls you off from the bad guys. The center of gravity of the Electronics Distribution industry has shifted to the Far East. The upshot is that someone will be happy to pull the parts you need, and send them to you for less that Digi-Key etc. will charge for shipping. You have to anticipate, and likely buy more than you need. I recently bought 300 LED's in six different colors for $13 shipped. They'll likely sell most of them with my estate, but I don't have to look around for dead electronics the next time I need a LED. Let me know if you need any. Regards, Al Al Klase ? I came across the webpage for your radio club via Google, and thought I'd e-mail you. My wife has an old (1970's) Fisher system (receiver, turntable, speakers) that she's gung-ho on restoring and using, and I'm trying to find someone in the area (central NJ, preferably) who can help/give me advice/do it not too expensively. We live in Morganville, about 10 miles from Freehold. Our phone # is 732-972-3492, or of course you can e-mail me with any contact info.? Thanks much for any assistance/advice/references,?
