Folks,
DX conditions were better last night than Saturday or Sunday, still not
spectacular, but getting better. There's still plenty of time to enjoy
the contest, so get started tonight.
The following is based on my log from last night. I really suffer here
in Jersey City from the extremely strong locals everywhere I tune, so 9
out of 10 of you are in better locations. I'm using a homebrew loop
antenna in an upstairs room under the eves. There is a minimum of local
noise and minimum shielding by wires, pipes, and ducts up there. Take
you portable, and explore your domicile for a quiet place.
Start my bagging some of the easy 700+ mile stations:
650 WSM Nashville
670 WSCR Chicago
750 WSB Atlanta
780 WBBM Chicago
890 WLS Chicago (Not easy with WCBS, 880, so loud here.)
1000 WMVP Chicago (I can't hear WMVP so close to 1010 WINS under current
conditions.)
Then reach out farther:
KMOX 1120 St. Louis
KXEL 1540 Waterloo, IA (You'll probably need to null out WDCD, Albany.
That's easy as it's about a 90 degree angle.)
If you're going to win, you'll need more 1000+ mile loggings.
600 CMKA San German, CU 1347 miles
670 CMBC Arroyo Arena, CU 1271 miles
These stations can be easily identified, as they are members of the
Radio Rebelde network, and broadcast identical programs at most times.
You don't need to understand Spanish. If you hear the same thing on both
freq's, put them both in the log.
870 Radio Reloj Clock Ticks, Beep on the minute, and "RR" ID in Morse
shortly thereafter. DIT-DAH-DIT DIT-DAH-DIT
Set you clock accurately, as you might not be able to hear the ticks or
any programming, but the beep and ID are often really clear.
The Reloj freq is a new addition, and doesn't appear on some lists,
including mine.
Check http://www.mwlist.org/mwlist_quick_and_easy.php?area=3&kHz=870 a
good resource that new to me.
I'm having zero luck with old standy Caracas on 750, New Orleans 0n 870,
or San Antonio on 1200. Snellman's likely to kick my butt.
Get busy,
Al
