[NJARC] Television question

I've found it tough to get computer video stream, especially recorded
movies, to play conveniently using a Roku, although that or a Chromecast
are certainly options. If your computer has an S- video out AND your TV has
S-video in, then a simple S-video cable should carry the video portion of
the signal just fine. You will still need to run the audio out from the
computer to the audio in on the TV using a mini-stereo phone plug to two
RCA male connectors. If your TV doesn't have an S-video in, or your
computer doesn't have an S-video out, you'll need to convert one end or the
other (VGA-to-S or S-video to baseband video.) You can get a converter that
accepts video from the VGA port and turns it directly into baseband video
(the type that goes to the yellow 'video' jack on most TVs. Some of these
are very inexpensive and the quality of the conversion varies greatly, but
most all should be adequate to watch TV on an old TV. Again, you'll need to
handle the sound separately. The least expensive S-t-baseband video
converters sell for a couple of bucks on eBay. A "nicer" way to go is to
use a modulator (anything from a Radio Shack piece of junk to an old cable
system Blonder-Tongue Agile Modulator) to give you a signal that can be
broadcast to some rabbit ears on top of the TV (or a coat hanger connected
to the antenna terminals) for experiencing those joys of bygone days!
