Vic,

You'll generally have a fair amount of leeway.  First, the standard 
value system changed over the years, so for our purposed, 500K (old) = 
470K,  25K = 22K, etc.  Not a big change.

A lot of resistors in vintage radio had a tolerance of +/- 20%, so 
replacing a 56K with a 68K is generally OK, especially if you measured 
the 68K to be close to or less than target value.

Replacing a 56K with a 100K is probably pushing it just a little. Use 
two 100K in parallel.
