If you just want to make the radio look nice and not necessarily an exact
restoration, curtain fabric makes a nice texture and comes in patterns that
look harmonious.  I have an AK cabinet that I use as a hifi speaker that I
put some scrap curtain fabric in and it looks nice.  It has a floral
pattern because that is what we had in our pile, but I bet there are
geometric patterns that would look good, too.
