Re: .5 amp 6.3 volt bulb substitution---C'mon, WA2TAK, put your noggin to work and do the calculation-have you tried shunting a #47 6.3 volt .15 amp bulb with 20 ohm 2 watt resistor? The .5 amp current will divide between the bulb and the resistor and the bulb will draw its .15 amp and glow brightly  while the resistor will soak up the 0.35 difference. Remember: restoring radios is supposed to test your powers of improvisation as much as it stretches the limits of your pocketbook. Enjoy.
