[NJARC] Mailing LPs

I had luck shipping several 78s at a time by putting newspaper between
each one, cardboard on the outside and tape the mess together. Then put
in a box with 2 inches of clearance on all sides with solid styrofoam on
the ends and peanuts packed tight on the sides. What you label the box
does not matter. If you can safely throw this out the 2nd floor window
onto the asphalt driveway, then it will probably survive shipping,
unless it is run over. Shipping one 78 by its self will probably not
survive unless you have lots of cardboard around it. Better yet is to
add a trashed record on each side. Do not ship in the album some record
sets came in or were stored in.
I had a LP shipped to me that someone decided to bend in half. You can
imagine how it looked when I received it. You have to box these to keep
someone from bending it. Since they are more flexible, they don't have
to be packed as rigidly as the 78s.
Where I used to work, we had to ship delicate instruments on pallets so
some fool wouldn't throw or drop it. That still didn't stop a forklift
fork from going through the box!
