Rob,

I can't help with the RCA loudspeaker, but companies used to ship 78s all
over the country and world successfully. RCA Victor was still looking,
however, for increased yield for shipping success in the late 1940s when an
engineer wrote a couple of engineering memos on how to pack 78s to survive
a fall from loading dock heights. People have relearned his lessons as the
success of Kurt Nauck's 78rpm.com and other auctioneers indicate. He
doesn't give advice online, but others do if you search <shipping 78s>.
This site repeats advice given on another, only with pictures:
http://www.claxtonola.com/shipping78s/. Being made of vinyl, LPs should
not require quite so much protection from shattering.

best, Alex
