Perhaps your "static" is interference from electronic florescent lamp ballasts. I have found that a good AC line filter will help reduce the noise found on the AC line.

I had replaced it a while back when I changed the filter caps and misread the color code stripes....I now realize that it is good practice to check the values on the multimeter before installing. I was off by a factor of 10....should have been 15KOhms instead I had a 1.5KOhms resister in place ....also replaced another resister where the values had drifted upwards.....much improved......I still notice static when I plug the unit into the wall in stead of my isolated transformer. I live in a high rise and I think that all of the steel girders play havoc. Anyway.....Merry Christmas to all and by the way, I have downloader most of the tube talk shows onto my iPod and now can listen in the car etc....great show...I love it.
