ok.....here is a good one and I am curious to see what the intelligencia
thinks. I have been restoring a philco console that belonged to the
grandfather of a close friend. I have changed every cap including the filter
caps, reconed the speaker and aligned the AM FM and SW and I am getting lots
of static type noise with am and fm reception that seems to get worse as I
use the tone control......now here is the funny/odd part. When I plug the
unit into my isolation variable transformer and crank it up to 131 volts it
works superbly. At first I had thought that this was a classic case of
silver mica migration but then stumbled upon the variac 130 volts. I am
thinking that this might be caused and remedied by replacing with either a
lower or higher value filter cap(s)....opinions please and thanks.
