Walt...I'm very impressed...you called it right!..again...

I replace a cap that was 'collaterally damaged' by contact with that mystery
resistor...when I first saw it...looked like bigaxx bumble bee..

Took some like tubes from another radio to replace the originals...12BXX's..

Radio now 'working'.

But...got a weak front end....very little noise in speaker when no
station...picking up local station with "OK" audio ( 2 miles away
)...picking up another station...but...need TO TOUCH THE LOOP ANTENNA
...then get MUCH better signal...put my outside TAK-tenna to the loop
terminal...NO difference..still better when I touch the loop with my
finger...

There's a trimmer near the tuning variable...no change when I screw it
out...

Have not touched the IF's...( darn ) gave away my bagfull of plastic IF
sticks...prior to my move to PA...( along with a very very fine military
audio AND RF generator...talk about being dumb!!! )

Don't know exactly what to expect from this little radio...but...think it
should do better...

What next Doctor?
