HI AARON:

FILAMENT STRINGS ARE NOT ALWAYS WIRED PIN TO PIN AS SHOWN ON SCHEMATICS.APPARENTLY THAT IS THE CASE HERE.THE RESISTOR WAS WIRED IN A DIFFERENT SECTION.

THE SCHEMATIC SHOWS IN THE NOTES THAT THE LINE VOLTAGE DESIGNED FOR AT THAT TIME WAS 117V.AS YOU WELL KNOW MOS LINE MAINS ARE AROUND 124/125V OR SOME TIMES MORE.WITH THAT IN MIND I SUGGEST USING A 120 OHM RESISTOR.
A 5 WATT WILL STILL RUN WARM SO INORDER TO REDUCE HEAT UNDER THE CHASSIS I WOULD USE A 7 WATT.MY CALCULATIONS COME UP WITH 2.85 WATTS DISSIPATION.

STEVE-THAT SPLIT RESISTOR IS THE ONE MARKED 100 IN THE FILAMENT STRING.

Steve

Don't worry about the 12AV6 connections. If you trace the schematic out
closely, you will see they do connect together. But then, you didn't
say whose schematic you're using.

The schematics I looked at have a varistor between the 35C5 and 12BA6.
But no matter where it's located as long as it's in the filament
string. To quote the Philco service sheet, "R12 100", "tube saver
resistor approx 880 ohms at room temperature." If I did all my math.
correctly, with a resistor rated at 100 ohms with 0.15 amp. going
through it, it drops 15 volts. Adding all the tubes and the resistor,
that's an operating voltage of 122.8 volts. The service sheet says 105
to 120 volts so I guess I'm on target so far. 15 volt drop times 0.15
amps. gives 2.25W dissipation. You should double the wattage to be safe.
