THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE.WHEN THE GRID AND PLATE ARE TIED TOGETHER IT IS IS A DIODE DETECTOR.NOT REQUIRING B+.
PILOT LAMP CHARTS ARE AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET BOB.
I USE PAPER CHARTS.

FYI, the older ham handbooks, like ARRL in the 40s and 50s, often have a
