Steve Goulart and I went to Saugerties, NY (120 miles north of my QTH)
today to pick up an early radar scope the result of an e-bay sale. Too
heavy to ship. We hoped that there might be other goodies lurking
there. After finding out that both Mapquest and were completely lost in
this rural area we hooked up with the seller who had to come to the
Thruway exit to guide us. Rather typical clean out potential; guy was
in radio/TV since 1931, accumulated all kinds of surplus stuff, much
from P & T Surplus in Kingston, passed away in 2005 at age 91. Daughter
has been selling off stuff on e-bay since then but house is a mess and a
couple of tons of stuff still there. Appears lots of good stuff gone
through e-bay sales but lots still there along with the usual mold,
dust, dirt, rodent and spider potential. Most stuff in attic and his
work shop plus a small barn. In addition to the radar scope we picked
up the two units of an APN-4 WWII Loran set, the main unit of an APS-15A
airborne radar set plus a couple of other minor things. It's a shame it
is so far away, we could help with the clean out. Anyone closer
interested? She will entertain other scroungers, I have contact info
but she isn't doing too bad on e-bay. Her handle on e-bay is suetbandit
and she currently lists 6 Sylvania 6H6GT/G "matched" tubes (0 bids) and
10 Ken-Rad 6SN7GT black glass tubes (13 bids @ $230.50) plus other
items. I'll have pictures at the tube party on Saturday.
