Hello Robert,
                        Is there anywhere on the chassis or case that would read "McCulla Manufacturing"? To my knowledge Nat-Pfanstiehl made a AC model 618 that incorporated both the AM Broadcast band and shortwave bands in 1933. I think it may have used plug-in coils and had a wooden case. 

If the case is unknown or there is no audio output stage perhaps it is a SW Converter.
