SAVE THE CHRS RADIO MUSEUM & RADIO HALL OF FAME AT HISTORIC KRE

The California Historical Radio Society is an educational nonprofit group formed in California in 1974
For the Restoration and Preservation of Early Radio and Radio Broadcasting.

CHRS has occupied the historic KRE radio station building in Berkeley for almost 9 years. Our landlord
has gone into bankruptcy, and the result of this forces CHRS to purchase the building NOW, or lose it.
Our tireless volunteers have put in too much time, love and passion into this building and museum to
lose it. It has been our dream to buy KRE so we are asking for help. Your donations are requested.
The $750,000 we need to buy KRE secures our place as the entity that will preserve Bay Area radio
and radio history in perpetuity. We had $93,000 in our Museum Fund, and since June 1st, our total is
$381,830! Our pledges must be secured ASAP. This is short notice, but we were only recently made
aware of the situation. We are a 501(c)(3). Donations are tax deductible.

Naming rights in this historic building are possible for major donors. We realize how much radio has
been a part of our lives in the Bay Area and are passionate about our efforts to preserve its history.
We believe we are one of the only vintage radio groups to have an historic AM radio station as its home.
CHRS has created “the” West Coast Center devoted to all things radio:

• The CHRS Museum houses our world class collection of radio receiving and broadcasting gear,
early TV, Hi-Fi and test equipment.
• The Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame celebrates the personalities who made Bay Area radio great.
• We offer classes in radio history, restoration and repair, have radio repair clinics and restore our
museum artifacts in our fully equipped radio / TV repair shop.
• Our vintage audio service digitizes audio from R to R, cassette, LP, ET, 8 track, wire, 45s & 78s.
• Vintage Radio Collectors Events are held in our parking lot.
• We have a restored and working 1950s radio control room.
• Our Amateur station W6CF houses a fine collection of vintage ham, commercial & military gear.
• The James Maxwell Communications Research Library has materials dating back to the early
20th century including the Archives of the Society of Wireless Pioneers.
• LIVE! at KRE - RADIO DAY BY THE BAY 2012 - Coming up July 21st - Our annual huge
fund raising day - Live music, vintage radio auction, live radio play and more.
CHRS programs also include:
• The Bay Area Radio Museum - on line - the people, audio clips and histories of San Francisco
