We cherish repairing our old radios and keeping them working. Well the computer geeks feel the same way only their hardware does not go back so far. On Saturday the 30th when we are having our radio repair clinic the MARCH computer group will be doing the same thing for personel computers at InfoAge only in the Telcom building. This will be for their members computers and some of the computers in their museum that need work. I doubt that they will need the use of tube testers but troubleshooting is troubleshooting no matter what technology is involved.
The MARCH group has been quite successful in bringing in famous speakers from the early days of the personal computer evolution. On the following Sunday, the 1st of July at 10:00 AM they are hosting a presentation by Lee Felsenstein. Lee is a true pioneer of the personal microcomputer field. He has four claims to fame:
- He was the meeting moderator of the legendary Homebrew Computer Club
- He was a co-organizer of Community Memory, which in the SF Bay region was a teletype-based ancestor to modern bulletin boards like Craigslist
- He was a top engineer at Processor Technology, which made add-on boards and eventually their own computer
- He was the chief engineer of the Osborne portable computer, which dominated in the first half of the 1980s
You might want to include this event on your weekend schedule as well. A $10.00 donation to InfoAge is suggested.
Ray
