I think he meant in the method of calling people- his secretary, broker, girlfriend, etc, not really imagining the tech misadventure we are on now with the blasted things.

That sounds like Marconi syntax but is a bit hard to believe given it anticipates miniaturization in a significant way and integrated functions beyond simple messaging. Don't doubt it's in the book but got to wonder about it.
