Thanks for the heads up John. But like Al Klase, Ray Chase and you, my radio
interests tend to be toward military and commercial HF communications receivers.
I've got to limit the radio collecting somehow so I will pass on this event.

For those not familiar, Sargent Auctions is Jim Sargent who is, I think, still
president of the Vintage Phonograph and Radio Society (VPRS) of the Dallas /
Fort Worth area. VRPS is about the same size and function as NJARC. They hold
some big meets and draw noted speakers like NJARC's very own John Dilks.

I have gone to some of the VPRS sponsored auctions over the years and have noted
that the 50s - 60s plastic radios seem to command more interest then the 20s and
30s battery sets. Just the opposite of what I remember of the NJARC meets.
This seems to reflect the somewhat younger membership of the Texas radio club.
Jon Butz Fiscina lived closer to the VRPS action so he could give you a better
feeling of what radio collecting is like in Texas.

As for Arkansas, there are two clubs, one in Little Rock and the other in Fort
Smith. The LR club is really just one man, Tom Burgess. It is rumored that the
reason there are so few collectible radios in Arkansas is that Tom has already
bought them! I know almost nothing about the Fort Smith club. I have always
wanted to go to a meeting but never found the time. Fort Smith is about 150
miles over back roads from where I live in Hot Springs.

Arkansas has about 2.5 million people and about five times the land area of NJ.
Being mostly, rural except for a few big cities, Arkansas never really had a
lot of examples of early radio and come to think of it, the same can be said
about Texas.
Regards,
Jim
Arkansas section member of NJARC since 2000

Subject: [CaliforniaHistoricalRadio] Radio auction coming up this month. Will
be both on-line and in person (Texas)

A collector left a 500-piece collection of (mostly) unrestored radios to a Home
for Children in Quinlan, TX. The collection's being auctioned off on Friday the
24th of this month live in Texas. However, there's an on-line auction on
Saturday the 25th. There's a good number of Catalin radios and some other very
nice sets. Check out the following website for more information. I have NO
further information myself. There's contact information on this site for any
further questions you might have.
