Regarding the copper strip...
Find some 1" tubing and run it through rollers a couple of times to flatten.
I'm wondering if the coil needs that much surface area.  I'm thinking that WW-I vintage ship TX did not have coils much more than an inch wide...  Some were rated at about 2kW.
