Hello Gary,

I don't know that specific mic, but, from the few pix I found on the 
web, it appears similar to the WWII Navy R-16 and RS-38 microphones.

I seriously doubt it is a noise canceling design.  Such mics will 
generally have holes on front and back, allowing ambient noise to reach 
both sides of the diaphragm.  If the same sound reaches both sides of 
the diaphragm there is greatly reduced movement and pickup.

I don't believe noise cancellation became common until after WWII.  The 
631B appears to be exactly what you'd expect in a late 1930's aircraft.

Is this Amelia Earhart related?
