Hi Lisa Vintage refrigerators usually don't need much more work then
cosmetic restoration & minor rewiring. However some may require more then
that. I own 2 vintage refrigerators 1 1934 GE monitor top & a 1941
kelvinator. I have fully restored my monitor top I repainted the outside and
installed a new cord. My kelvinator is semi restored I have rewired it. Both
run beautifully quiet and efficiently. The fact that many of these units
run on R 12 and have no defrost cycle makes them more energy efficient then
anything on the market today.
There are Reproduction service manuals For Crosely Refrigerators they show
up on ebay fairly frequently but are usually pricey, these manuals can bring
50 or 60 bucks some times. The man to talk to about this would have been
Mike Arnold he made a business of restoring Antique appliances. He was
specifically known for restoration and repair of GE monitor top
refrigerators. Unfortunately he passed away a few years ago. I have the
service manuals for the GE monitor tops but not the crosely units.
I will refer you to http://www.automaticwasher.org/ They have a forum for
vintage appliance collectors and can be very helpful. Or if you need a hand
or guidance in your restoration my phone number is 609-947-9071. I am happy
to try and answer any questions you may have.
Good Luck
