Hi- I wanted to thank, Al, Alan, and everyone for an EXCELLENT Oscilloscope CLinic at InfoAge this weekend- I feel I learned quite a bit, and now have to start messing about a bit more with the radios, now that I have a little more understanding of the Oscilloscope theory, operation, etc. I am planning to read through the Tektronics information given as the "book" for the class, as well as review the notes I made during the wonderful lecture.
I also found out tonight, after I got home, the BAMA did indeed have the manual for my LabVolt 798 100MHz oscilloscope! However, it is NOT under that: The oscilloscope was made by Leader Electronics, and is a Leader LBO-516 in LavVolt livery. I looked thought the manual, and am convinced it is, indeed one and the same model, so I now have a copy I am going to print out at work Monday... :) So now I'll have a bit better idea of its capabilities.
Thanks again to Walt & Marty for helping figure out the problem with the pair of Heathkit station monitors I brought In to oscilloshoot... One turned out to be just fine- especially when we ran a signal to it, and got great display. The other, I want to thank Marty for triggering my thought process: He suggested I look at the heater string, because none of the tubes were glowing- something I'd noticed but not connected.(Yeah, I know- my heater string needs checking, too) I took a look, and about 5 seconds of searching found the lead of the heater string form the transformer, while nicely mechanically connected, was, in fact, NOT soldered! It has probably had an intermittent open forever, and may be low use, because the last owner/owners never really looked into the problem! We pressed the contact with a pen, got a small spark, and everything started working... I still have a V-gain issue to work through, but I now know it WILL work...
Thanks again- It was great! Had a LOT of FUN today!
Thanks!
Scott
