New Jersey Antique Radio Club

I have two radio items I would like to pass onto the right people, and I
think your club is the best way to get to them. The training materials
are for free, and the old GE radio Model G-97 is for sale to the highest
bidder.

1. United Radio-Television Institute of Newark - Training Materials

This is a loose-leaf notebook with the following
sections/pages/notes/comments. It is "free" to anyone who will come pick it up at my home in
Clifton, NJ. It provides a "snapshot" of the technology of the early 1940's:

1. Student who's materials it was: Phil Spindel (my father-in-law who
passed away a few years ago)
2. All materials are from the United Radio-Television Institute, Inc.
Newark, New Jersey. Most all of these pages include text, diagrams, formulas,
and some student "tests" at the end of sections. Estimated date - 1942
based on the institute's newsletter which was with the materials.
3. "Sound" - 7 pages
4. One page test: draw schematic; tubes for RF; Image frequency
interference
increasing the intermediate frequency
5. Filament Emission - Laboratory Exercise - 6 pages including test at end.
6. Grid Bias - Plate Current Curves - Laboratory Exercise - 3 pages
including test
7. Plate voltage - Plate Current Curves - Laboratory Exercise - 2 pages
8. Laboratory Exercise - Purpose: to measure the constants of a triode
vacuum tube - 3 pages including test.
9. Dynamic Characteristic Curves - purpose: To study the dynamic
characteristics of a triode vacuum tube. 3 pages
10. Laboratory Exercise - Tube Characteristics - Beam Tetrode - 2 pages
11. Laboratory exercise - Plate Resistance Curves of Tetrodes and Pentodes
- 2 pages
12. Laboratory Exercise - Grid Bias - Plate Current Curves - Pentodes - 2
pages
13. Laboratory Exercise - Resistance-Coupled Amplifiers - 5 pages
14. Laboratory Exercise - - Purpose: To study action of the Power
Transformer and Filter in an Alternating Current Power Supply. 8 pages
15. Laboratory Exercise - To study the action of a three element tube used
as a Grid Bias Detector.- 3 pages
16. Radio receiver Alignment - Purpose: To become familiar with Signal
Generators and receiver alignment - 5 pages
17. Radio Receiver Analysis - Purpose: To analyze the voltages and
currents in a seven tube receiver. - 3 pages
18. Radio Servicing - lab Exercises - Purpose: To become familiar with
trouble shooting in radio receivers with simple test equipment. - 7 pages
19. R.F. Transmitters - 4 pages
20. R.F. Transmitters - Part I - Oscillator - 2 pages
21. R.F. Transmitters - Part II - Frequency Multiplier - 3 pages
22. R.F. Transmitters - Part III - Neutralized Amplifier - 3 pages
23. R.F. Transmitters - Part IV - Modulator - 1 page
24. Plate Modulation - 2 pages
25. Low-Level Modulation - 2 pages
26. Grid Modulation - 2 pages
27. Lots of pages of hand written notes - estimate about 30 pages.
28. And a copy of the institute's newsletter "The Transmitter", dated
December 23, 1942. Four pages. Volume 1, Number 1.

Second: I have a old floor standing multi-band GE radio. Complete,
generally in good condition, except for some damage to speaker and the
speaker's cloth cover when something poked through the front cloth cover. Tubes
all there and light up when plugged in, but just humming sound coming out
from the speaker.

Info on it:
- General Electric, model G-97.
- General Electric Co., Bridgeport, Conn.
- Number stamped into rear of cabinet (serial number?) 3315
- Has "push button" tuning and dial tuning
- Has a pop-up built in timer clock to turn radio on and off
- Bands:
    -Short Wave
    -Amateur Aircraft
    -Broadcast
I bought this radio from one of my neighbors many years ago - I'd guess
in the 70's because I liked the way it looked. I've only used it for
display, as a piece of furniture. If you are interested in it, I can e-mail you
photos of it. Just e-mail me at _mgracer53 at aol.com_
(mailto:mgracer53 at aol.com) and ask for them. I'm willing to let go of it, as I work on
downsizing all the stuff I have accumulated over the years (TOO Much!). You are
welcome to come look at it if you would like to see it for yourself - just
call me first. The radio is for sale to the highest bidder by the end of
January. Buyer must come pick it up at my house. If you are interested in
buying it, send me your bid. Highest bid by the end of January gets it.
