Baofeng UV-3R unboxing and first review

Martin (M1MRB) and Colin (M6BOY) Butler have recently purchased a pair of Baofeng UR-3R 70cm/2m amateur / ham radio handhelds from China.

I’m a firm believe that there is a need for a cheap handheld amateur / ham radio, affordable for parents to purchase for youngsters joining the hobby, and of a form factor similar to a mobile phone.

Chris Howard, 2E0CTH, advised the ICQ amateur / ham radio presenters Martin (M1MRB) and myself (M6BOY) of a recent purchase on ebay, of a Chinese radio valued below $50. This radio would hit a sweet spot for parents of young amateurs and in my case would meet my need for a small, portable radio to use while mobile.
