Hi Bill,
Yes, they were on continuously from 10 AM until after 5 PM. However
there was a fair amount of dead air, as transmitter builder, and station
licensee, Steve Hemphill was doing double duty as engineer and host to
the 8-10 people who visited the station. We had to keep reminding him
to restart the audio.
We listened to WA2XMN at the Swapmeet on a 1939 GE JFM-90 tuner, though
Parsippany may be in a bit of a hole. I visited Alpine after the meet
listening on a Collins military set in the car all the way up, and later
all the way home to Jersey City. Signal was full-quieting on the 1941
Meissner tuner and roof-top antenna from home. There were email QSL's
from all over the metro area, and a couple may 90-100 miles out.
The path to Jackson is pretty tough. See:
http://www.heywhatsthat.com/profiler.html The Alpine Tower is just off
9W a little north of Timberline Rd, in Alpine.
We need to come up with some sort of excuse to get this station on the
air in conjunction with a club activity. Problems include ASCAP issues
and the fact that Steve lives in Pa. some distance from the station.
Check http://www.wa2xmn.ar88.net/ if you haven't done so already.
Regards,
Al Klase
