On a positive note I have finished the restoration of the crosley hybrid
transistor radio that my father gave me as a child. Thanks everyone for your
help and suggestions with setting up the batteries. The 45 volt batteries
are still being produced although expensive at $20. As far as the 4.2 volt,
I ended up finding a AAA four battery holder and bypassing the fourth
battery space. By using a few weak batteries I came up with just the right
voltage and the square holder fits perfectly in the space. The toughest part
of the job was replacing the CAPS including the electrolytic and the Black
Beauties or Bumble Bees as they are called. I hated to replace the BBs but
they were way off specs. The soldering almost drove me mad since the radio
employs the wiring of a printed circuit type layout. One spec of solder in
the wrong place and cafooy, you will never find it without checking pictures
etc. It now plays beautifully. Loud and clear.

I am also still working on my Magnavox 1948 television and am making
progress. the electrolytics are what's holding me up since a few are 120 and
140 mf. Of course I am coupling several together but it will take 8 Caps to
replace the three electrolytic canisters in the set. Thank you all for your
help with that set, including Walter who I still owe the schematics. I am
getting to it......
