When we did a DX night at Info age last year, Walt and Aaron Heskes and
myself heard A Spanish station on 750. From the few words I heard (and since
forgot) I suspected it was station KAMA in El Paso TX.

Gang,

I spent last night at InfoAge , and did a log using my broadcast-band
ARC-5 receiver, a one-hand carry. We tried a long wire that ran from
the antenna test tower to the Hotel attic. Results were inconclusive.
Later I settled into the museum using simple tuned loops and the
100-foot T that feed the museum antenna distribution system.

As I suspected, signals are not as strong as previous years, but there's
still some good DX to be had.

Radio Vision Cristiana, 530 KHz, Turks and Caicos: This used to be a
give-away. I even logged them on a crystal set years ago. However, the
"Radio Vision Cristiana" jingles and the ID in English, just after the
hour, explaining their connection to Patterson, NJ, seem to be gone. We
thought we were hearing them but couldn't be sure, as there's now
low-power CIAO with a multicultural format out of Brampton, Ontario on
the same frequency. It took me until nearly 2AM to figure out what to
do. The RVC website indicated that the same programming is carried by
WWRV. 1330 KHz, north of Hackensack. In DX parlence, RVC and WWRC are
parallel (//). Sure enough I could hear WWRV, and they were carrying
the same program in Spanish as the suspected RVC on 530. That's
sufficient for a log entry as long as you know your on the appropriate
frequencies.

ZIZ, 555KHz, St. Kitts & Nevis: These guys hardly ever ID, but they go
to BBC News after midnight EST. (At least on Sunday, 1AM their local
time (GMT -4). Check their website. If you hear BBC on 555, go for
it. Again make sure you're on frequency. You can work down from loud
WMCA on 570, down through WFIL on 560, and above who ever it is on 550.

WWL, New Orleans, 870: Awful close to WCBS 880, and again not as loud
as previous years. I caught an ID at about 00:25.

Other farther-than-Chicago DX: KMOX, 1120, St. Louis, WHO, 1040, Des
Moines, and KXEL, 1540, Cedar Rapids. H. Klance also reports hearing WHO.

Another disappointment: I've been hearing Spanish regularly on 750 when
I null out WSB. Could be YVKS Caracas, but havn't heard the "Erre Cee
Erre" (RCR- Radio Caracas Radio) ID's that used to make this easy.
Perhaps if you're fluent you can figure it out.

Regards,
Al
