Boonton was probably best know for their Q Meter.  It is used to measure Q
(Quality) of a component or network at RF frequency.  Without getting in to
a discussion of Q it's a very useful device when making coils used in RF
circuits.  A coils L is only a part of the story.   I have a military
knockoff of the Boonton model.  They also made a excellent Grid Dip Meter.
