Ho-Ho-Ho all ye mortal radio collectors, Bonhams of New York held a radio auction this morning; the catalin collection of Michael & Diane Schoeman. 94 radios, 93 of them catalins with one lowly wood Radiola 26 slipped in. As was the case in the midst of the 1930's depression, some people still have lots of cash. The 94 radio collection sold for a whopping $344,744.00. That's an average of $3667.50 per radio even including the mere Radiola 26 that only sold for $268.00. Prices include the 22% buyers premium (although if your total purchase was over $100,00.00 your premium was graciously reduced to only 20%). These prices do not include NYC sale tax. Highest price went for an Air King model 52 "skyscraper", color red I believe at $42,700.00. No, I did not attend, all this through the magic of the internet.
Hope that you get something nice under your Christmas tree.
Ray
