The early television convention was a lot of fun too. I went out for my
first time with Dave Sica. We loaded 10 foot box truck with donations from
the former David Sarnoff Library They where happily received at the Early
Television Foundation. I was blown away by the amazing collection of truly
antique Televisions. Of the countless items in the museums collection , the
prototype 1928 GE octagon mechanical TV set, A 1920s mechancal tv camera,
A 1935 RCA prototype electronic television set, 2 1939 RCA television
studio Cameras one was used at the worlds fair, The amount of rare one of a
kind stuff was mind boggling 95% of what was there was running. CT-100s
TK-12s TT-5s where some of the least interesting things on display.
The presentations were also wonderful one of my favorites was the one on the
rebuilding process of the 15GP22 CRT. There was also a nice one on the
history and development of home video. The People that attended where overly
nice willing to help out in any way they could. Every body helped out in any
way they could. The atmosphere was casual and friendly .
The Auction was wonderful many good deals to be had. I bought a admiral
Bakelite console in very good condition for only $30. At the swapmeet I
bought a 4ft by 4ft rca dealer display flag for $10 Dave snagged a Philco
predicta in nice shape for a nicer price.
It pays to be a radio collector too there where 3 late 1950s lighted RCA
VICTOR dealer display cases. They are about 7ft tall 3 ft wide by 1 ft deep.
Being that most who attended where tv collectors. Nobody took any interest
in them so I they where given to me for free. Take that Sal.
Any one even remotely interested in the hobby or the history of antique
television will have a blast. I hope to see more club members out there next
year.
Thanks
