I just had a heck of time getting a receiver (BC-639) to work, because the tube I was using had a pinout different from the books.  The manual for the receiver and my 1949 ARRL Handbook both show pins 2 and 7 connected to the cathode of the 9002 tube.  The receiver uses only pin 2.  The Raytheon 9002 I was using has pin 2 connected to the getter and pin 7 connected to the cathode.  When I twisted a fine wire around pins 2 and 7, connecting them, the receiver came to life.
