[NJARC] for your enjoyment - Sam's dial string reference manual - And Philco factory Manuals

I just had a frustrating bout with a dial string and would like to pass my experience on. I had restrung a broken dial string with a heavy duty braided fishing line thinking it would last forever. The problem was it had some kind of finish on it that made it 'slippery', probably to facilitate casting lures. this resulted in slippage. I applied some rosin and this helped but this was short lived and it started to slip again. Finally I removed it and replaced it with some linen cord that was very soft yet strong. This worked much better.
