[NJARC] Bad Mica Cap

Nick -
This cap was not bad if my memory serves me, and I cannot remember
the value. The reason I replaced it was because during the final
calibrations and tuning, I could not get the dial scale pointer accurate for
the appropriate frequency. The shortwave scale was off enough that
adjustment of the oscillator coil and trimmer was not to my liking. The
value of the cap was out of tolerance. After replacement, I was able to get
it right where it should be. I have a bin with many NOS mica caps. I
received from a closed up electronics shop a few years ago. It does come in
handy once in awhile. I will share with you that I have had more trouble
with the silver micas, especially those found in IF cans. The standard mica
caps are usually bulletproof.

P.S. I hope you enjoyed the story since I'm not a writer and I'm sure some
folks were wondering what became of the "Radio no one wanted" Hi;)

For Bob Bennett and Mike Christensen: I enjoyed your article in this
month's Broadcaster' about your restoration of the Airline console. I would
be interested in how you determined a bad mica cap in the SW section? Mica
caps rarely give problems and are not easily spoted when bad.
