Hi Everyone!
At long last the tubes for my HT-41 finally showed up from the dealer in Oklahoma who'd sold me the unit back in September...
I will simply share with you my e-mail concerning said package...
"Hi- Do you want the Good News, the Bad News, the Worse News, or the comic relief first?
The Good news- The box finally arrived. The missing heat dissipating top terminal connector was present inside.
The Bad News- The two 866AX tubes were nowhere to be found, so I still need to find a pair.
The Worse News- One 7094 transmitting tube is essentially trash- the top connector was broken completely out of the tube, to the point the glass around it was broken out, and it had been broken off the place where it was soldered onto the internal pieces! It looks like it was probably wrenched off when someone was trying to remove the heat dissipating cap and did not know what they were doing, failing to loosen the set screw very clearly present on it. Also, the other 7094 has this same pin damaged, although the glass is not fractured, I doubt another piece of pin could be soldered on and expected to operate properly... The broken out pin and bits of glass surrounding it were found in the box.
The Comic Relief- the single 47 lamp which came in the package appears to be ok.
So- in short, No 866AX tubes, which should have been here(they are the rectifier tubes for the unit), and one transmitting tube(7094) is scrap, and the other of dubious value.
I did some checking around previously, and the best prices I have found have been around $40 each for the 866AX's(866 & 866A will not fit. I have a pair of 866's & they are too large) and $100-$200 each for the 7094s, if you can find them.
At least I am up by the arrival of the heat dissipating cap."
I forgot to mention- I was also able to almost fully replenish my dissipated Packing Peanut supply from the big box the tubes were packed in. Think I oughta send a "P.S."?
Scott
PS here, Sorry I couldn't make the last meeting at Sarnoff- I'd been looking forward to it, but had to pick up my Mom at the airport at 7. I swear it seems she plans things JUST to screw with me! lol... I always enjoyed the place, and I'll miss the ambiance- Thanks for the hospitality there the past few years Alex! :)
