Ham Cram

The Old Barney Amateur Radio Club (OBARC) is holding a "Ham Cram" on
April 18th starting at 8:00 AM. at the Ocean Acres Community Center.
The object is to arrive with nothing but desire to have a ham radio
license and leave with a FCC issued Technician Class Amateur Radio
License. There is no Morse code requirement for this exam. There is
no age limit to take the exam, the younger and older the better.

A group of OBARC members will lead the cram course and administer the
FCC test. At the end of the day those taking the test will know if
they passed and the actual FCC license will be mail directly to them
from the FCC in relatively short order.

Amateur radio is a wonderful hobby with participants all over the
world. All hams are licensed by their respective governmental
communications bodies; in the US that body is the FCC. The Technical
class license is the entry level license and allows licensees to
communicate using their own call signs such as KC2XXX. Many boaters
find a ham license very valuable because of the vast network of ham
repeater stations through the country.

Anyone interested in ham radio is invited to visit OBARC at their
monthly meetings which is normally held on the first Tuesday of the
month at 7:30 PM. We typically have a program and refreshments are served.

The regular OBARC meetings and the "Ham Cram" are both held at the
Ocean Acres Community Center on Nautilus Drive in Manahawkin. For
directions and a map please see our website:
<http://www.obarc.org/>http://www.obarc.org or call 609-296-5856.

Anyone taking the FCC exam will be required to present one legal
(government issue) photo ID such as a passport, photo county ID,
photo driver's license or two other forms of non-photo government ID.
Young people, without a photo ID, can use a birth certificate,
library card, school ID, Social Security card, report card,
postmarked envelope addressed to them at the address they use on the
FCC application form would be acceptable as one of the two forms of
non-photo ID.

People without the necessary ID can take the course but will not be
able to take the test.

The testing fee is $15.00.
