I just finished restoring a 1952 Emerson Model 713 that my father had given
to my sister for her 12th birthday and when I brought it to her house in
Jersey there was so much static that it would not play. Only in one room in
the house did I receive one station. I even tried it outside and same thing.
It worked perfectly with incredible reception in my 6 story steal beam condo
in Staten Island. Finally I asked if there was a power transformer nearby or
high tension power wires etc and the answer was yes there was a power
transformer close to the house. Turns out that none of the other radios in
the house work very well if at all. Is there anything that one can do to
improve reception in a situation like this...A filter etc. The Emerson has
an unidirectional loop antenna built in with no place to attach an
additional indoor or outdoor antenna but I do not think that that would work
anyway. Thanks
