Here is the latest on the HT-37 issue:
I had determined I had a short to ground from the filament windings, and I still suspect this is so. Tonight I pulled out the power transformer, and removed the end bells. Everything looked clean, however, while I had no continuity to the primary windings, just about every other secondary lead showed some continuity to the filament windings. None was a dead short, but all had a few hundred ohms resistance showing.
To check my theory, I tested a new-in-the-box Thodarson transformer I recently bought. To no surprise, I found no continuity to the other leads form the filament leads, other than one which I believe to be a center tap. So that seems to confirm it to me, that the problem is a shot transformer.
In other news, my SX-111 was having fun pulling in some good 20-40 & 80M dx this morning. I was quite happy- I had been suspicious of it for the longest time, since, until I got the antenna in the attic last week, I really never had much good reception. Today I was listening to people CQ'ing from Bavaria, Belgium, Cuba, Kuwait, and several other countries- and some with very strong clear signals! Looking forward to tomorrow AM... I can't wait to be able to TRANSMIT sometime soon! I am looking into getting my late Uncle Bill(WB3KSM, SK)'s Hallicrafters HX-20 back online. It is supposed to be my back-up unit for the HT-37... But If I must... lol...
