The perpetrator's premise was that since folks seem to believe anything
they're told on television, he wondered if they would believe anything
they're told ABOUT television. Published authors on the subject and
esteemed members of the kickin'-est radio history preservation
organization (that's all of you!) aside, I suspect there might be a large
number of people who would have no problem at all accepting Gompf's
claims. (Remember the vice presidential debates and the
still-presented-as-fact "no TV in 1929" issue!)
Thanks to Steve McVoy of the (very real!) Early Television Museum for
originally calling this to my attention. What with the cold weather, my
head cold, my continued lack of progress in restoring any of my sets and
the as-of-today still-scheduled demise of analog TV broadcasting, I
needed a laugh ;-)
