Well, it seems the trap-dipole antenna I built form ARRL's plans, seems to be working ok so far... I have been in receive only mode, as I don't have the HT-37 on line quite yet. The SX-111 Mk 1 is picking up all sorts of signals now, and I have been enjoying 80M this evening,(nice ragchew going on with K1VDQ up north on 3.94MHz) after listening to W8ERN in northern Michigan on 40M this afternoon. The final arrangement wends its way around the attic, basically a convoluted "V" to each side of the attic, descending and spreading as it went... Lots of work getting it in place last night(until 3AM)
(Don't know if it is quite "fractal", but it's shape is certainly "fracked" lol)
On the 2M side, my ICOM HT is getting some good use- I have been very active on the local repeaters the past few weeks. I built a pair of the PL-259 based ground plane antennae again from ARRL plans, and have been doing very well with them.(I have two- one for the living room radio area, one for the workshop) I can hit the Williamstown repeater(145.390) on 1 watt, and that is a good 15 miles or so from me. On 5 watts this evening I was talking simplex with KD4TZG en route in flight roughly over the PA/MD border, heading south. I am pretty sure his altitude had something to do with it... Both antennas are above the second floor level.
Anybody got a good suggestion for an adequate replacement for the 7094s for my HT-41?(Do we have any available through the club?)
Looking forward to meeting night!
Scott
