[NJARC] "cheap radios at auction club" -vs-real radiocollectorclub

I like both venues. However, I prefer Princeton, because it is a straighter shot for me, Rt 295 North to 1 North- in about 40 minutes I can be there. Info Age, while a spot I love the history of, and the location, is better than an hour. My best route there is 70 east to the GSP, then North, then jump to 18, then Marconi Road. And any point can be problematic. Especially when there is construction. There are other routes- 537 to 195, NJTPK to 195, etc. But All are Long, Dull Rides from South Jersey.
I wouldn't object to the alternating months thing, but I am not sure I could make the drive there every month. I really wish I could! InfoAge is a great place.
Also, moving the meeting to any other weeknight would essentially kill it for me- I work 3:30 PM to almost midnight Monday to Thursday, with the occasional Friday thrown in. I like the Friday nights because I can usually tailor my work schedule to fit them. As it is, there are a couple HAM clubs I am interested in, but I can't get to the meetings as they are in the middle of the week, when I work!
As to John's accusal that all we do at Sarnoff auctions is buy stuff to resell, I am kind of offended. I usually buy items that I want for ME. Often I buy on a whim- Last time, I did a good bit of that. And the statement was made that the items would be tossed if no one bought them. So I got a few things no one else wanted to bid on, the club got a few dollars, and I had the joy of discovering I had no clue what I actually ended up with! Sometimes I do resell items I've bought, for the simple reason that either I need the money more than the item at the moment, or I realized I need the SPACE more than the item, or that I realize I do not have the ability to fix it! I usually feel guilty about it when I do sell something I bought at one of our auctions, however, I also consider that if I bid fairly, and paid for the item, it is my property now, and no one should have any say as to how I use it- or how I dispose of it should I have reason to. I doubt I
could get out of most things what I have in them, were I to bring them to one of our auctions or swap meets, although I do try.
After a day of playing "The Air Force Game", coming home to find this politicization of a simple idea is really upsetting. I just want to go to club meetings, talk radios, swap stories, radios, parts-whatever and have fun. I really don't care who the club officers are, I don't care if the club makes a lot of money, and I just don't care about politics within the group! I hate sitting through "New Business" and "Old Business" reports, thank gawd we don't do financial reports at the meetings. For crying out loud, this is a HOBBY, and should be fun, enjoyable, and educational, as well as helpful. If the club has money to use, great. If people want to find a way to use it properly, go to town. Just don't bother me about these details- there is enough of that crap to deal with elsewhere in my life.
I'm really starting to go off on a tangential soap box here, so I'll sign off for now. But this whole discussion is not to any good end.
