Nick,
The site is still there although the buildings were taken down in the late
80's and early 90's. The rail crossing on Rt. 206 is still there, but out
of service for obvious reasons. I recall going through there in the early
80's and remarking on the condition of the site.
US Steel was still a major employer during WW II in Trenton and Roebling.
American Bridge was in Trenton along with the massive sites of US Steel in
Trenton and Roebling.
Along with my previous suggestions for research, the Trenton Public
Library holds the Trentoniana Collection in the Main Library at 120 Academy St.
Chances are that Newark, Camden and Patterson also have similar collections.
Just from the few posting I have seen thus far, it will be a major
undertaking to collate all of this information. As a suggestion, Rutgers, New
Brunswick has a Masters Program in Information Services. They may be able to
offer some suggestions on how to organize this project. Dr. Magoun may
have his own suggestions as well.

Certainly 'Empire of the Air' should be considered; I don't know how
readily available it is for 'legal' viewing.
Have you ever heard of the Belle Mead Depot? It was a massive complex off
Rt 206 in Hillsborough used for stockpiling strategic materials during the
war; everything from copper to whale oil!

Hope that everyone had a pleasant holiday. Now some thoughts for the new
year.
InfoAge is currently designated a WWII Living Memorial by Monmouth County
and the surrounding towns. We would like to be the official WWII Living
Memorial for the entire state and recent discussions with the new governors
staff have been positive in that regard. The memorial should not be just to
the military personnel who participated but also recognize the New Jersey
industries that also made great contributions. To add more weight to our
quest for this designation it would be nice to be able to list a lot of the
NJ industries who made those contributions. I have a small list of radio
manufacturers but we should list ALL those who contributed to the war
effort; but how to do it? Fred Carl has been thumbing through magazines of the
period noting NJ companies who advertised their war efforts. That's one
way; perhaps there are others that you can think of. In any event, how about
sending me names of companies that you are aware of, where they were
located and perhaps wh
at they did in very general terms. I'll sort out duplications, don't
forget institutions such as Bell Labs, etc.
While I might have your attention, here is another interesting
proposition. The NJ Historic Divers group is thinking of having "Movie Nights" at
InfoAge where they will show feature films of sea disasters and so forth.
Well can we come up with feature, or not so feature, movies that are radio
related? The newly released story of Orson Wells I understand would be a good
one. Can you think of others?
Cheers, Ray
