Subject: [MorseCode] Speedwell Villiage Reopens !
I am happy to be able to report that after a 1.5 million dollar
restoration, Speedwell Village where Vail made the instruments used
by Morse in his demonstrations and later work has reopened.
When Pete Malvasi W2PM and I went there a few years ago the historic
instruments were poorly displayed, there was no security, and
priceless historic papers were to be found in rusty filing cabinets.
Pete and I were worried that New Jersey county politics might take
precedence over careful and thoughtful restoration but it seems as
though the job may have been well thought-out and executed. Pete, I
hope that you can go there sometime in the near future to bring back
a first-hand report and hopefully some photos. It is a loooong trip
for me from Vermont...
