I am happy to be able to report that after a 1.5 million dollar 
restoration, Speedwell Village where Vail made the instruments used 
by Morse in his demonstrations and later work has reopened.

When Pete Malvasi W2PM and I went there a few years ago the historic 
instruments were poorly displayed, there was no security, and 
priceless historic papers were to be found in rusty filing cabinets.

Pete and I were worried that New Jersey county politics might take 
precedence over careful and thoughtful restoration but it seems as 
though the job may have been well thought-out and executed.  Pete, I 
hope that you can go there sometime in the near future to bring back 
a first-hand report and hopefully some photos. It is a loooong trip 
for me from Vermont...
