Great discussion, and absolutely right. These things should be alive.
In fact, there's another discussion that some visitors bring up, and that's
restoration vs. repair. The only radio that has been restored
(electrically, that is)
is the visible radio. The others have only been repaired. Speaking for
myself, melting
out wax and tar and restuffing caps and transformers is for folks with
better fine motor
skills and patience than me.
And I agree with John. The Washington Receiver IS our one of a kind, and
we should
leave it alone (sorry, Ray). We can show AVC at work (and not at work)
using some
other less-valuable artifacts.
