[NJARC] Tungar rectifiers

Rob - my guess is they're really no different from a regular 866A. The mercury vapor needs to be fully ionized and up to temperature, or you'll have a flash over.Even though the voltage isn't true B+, they're is still current invloved. Look at it like a Johnson "Valiant" that uses a pair of 866A's 1/2 wave rectifiers. Even though the B+ isn't that high (600VDC or so) ; there's still current invloved. Your tungar, like the Valiant that uses 866A's is less inclined to flash over due to the lower voltage.

In either case, the blub/tube requires complete ionization to work properly. I stand corrected!

Best Regards,
                    Joe N3IBX

Do these low-voltage mercury rectifiers need to be warmed up before applying B+ like high-voltage types? Hard to imagine that they would.

Battleship MASSACHUSETTS has a 28V supply to run AN/ARC-1 that uses them.
