John,
Actually, the 864's are a sub for a WD-11 if the socket is modifyed
to fit it. I could also use longpin UX-199's with a socket modification.
I'd like to see if anyone would have any 864's that I could modify though. I
most recently acquired a Westinghouse Aeriola Sr., with it's original brass
based "Aeriotron" WD-11 in it. The tube works just fine, but the thought of
it developing a problem is shuttering. They're very expensive to replace. I
also have Radiola IIIA I'd like to get playing. That's a total of 5 tubes
between the two receivers. If I can find 864's for a good price I'll make up
the base adapters. My UX-199's are committed to other receivers.
I could always use the UX-199's and have them go between radios, but I'd
like to try 864's if possible. In addition, they're supposed to be a low
micrpophonic tube, whereas the WD-11 is VERY microphonic!
Best Regards,
Joe
