This one is directed towards Al Klase, but also the general membership...
I am working with the good old ARC 5 series radios(Don't worry, Al, I'm not tearing into the hardware of the "new ones" just trying to get the ones I already had going) and just pulled the bottom plate off to find one of the funky little round electrolytics has apparently sprung a leak.- It is oozing a greenish liquid. Is it ok to replace these with the newer ones in the same way we do with civilian ones? I am hoping to get a full set of receivers online and operating before the end of the month.(I hope to get the transmitters online as well, but they need not be in opcon for my upcoming airshow display) Also, can I unsolder the little cans, drain and empty them, and repack with a new cap, to maintain original look, or should I be myself, and go for function over form, as no one sees them anyway?
Thanks!
Scott
PS- I removed the SX-16 BFO last night, and am trying to figure what the problem there might be... looks pretty simple. I am going to check against the schematic...
