Well that's the way it is in the high end auction business.  Actually 
the catalogs are a profit center and become useful reference sources.  
Usually catalog purchasers also receive the "prices realized" after the 
auction.  Museums and auction houses maintain libraries to be able 
research past auctions.  In fact there is some market for older auction 
catalogs.  Sure this could all be done electronically today but some of 
us still like to touch the paper.  Besides, when you go to the auction 
it's more convenient to carry your catalog rather than a lap top.
