I am building a small audio generator described in an experimenter's booklet that is based on a Wien bridge and uses a TL082 op-amp (operational amplifier). As this is new territory for me, I looked up some information on the internet.
The specs on the op-amp are very impressive but the price is incredible; seventy cents! The miracles of modern electronics!
Looking up the Wein bridge I found the following comments:
'The circuit is based on a network origionally developed by Max Wien in 1891. Wien (pronounced 'vEn) did not have the means of developing electronic gain so a workable oscillator could not be realized. The modern circuit is derived from William Hewlett's 1939 Stanford University master's degree thesis. Hewlett along with David Packard co-founded Hewlett-Packard. Their first product was the HP 200A, a precision sine wave oscillator based on the Wien bridge. The 200A is a clasic instrument known for its low distortion.' - Wikipedia
This info makes this project much more fun and something I can really appreciate. What a great hobby!
