Just a couple notes about my purchases at the great auction at
Friday's meeting...
The $6 Philco "coffin" radio turned out to be a "Spanish Brown"
model 511, which was Philco's first own design chassis, as well
as their first tabletop radio design to make production. It is in
pretty decent condition, with some notes(and a good bit of grime)
inside, such as 1st RF transformer being bad, and no tubes. I am
considering repairing this one, and seeing if I can get it
working... Then I'm not sure what I'll do with it! Needs a
repaint, but has two of three original knobs- the third is an
original for the model, but the wrong size.
The $1 Eico VTVM seems to be in good shape- just have to find the
manual on BAMA. Works when I plug it in!
The $1 speaker has a small tear I need to repair, and will
probably be used to replace the speaker in a neat custom Philco
console I have.
The $1 box of stuff has yielded a few nice items, including a
perfect Zenith speaker I can use for another project.
And the $1 Radio Shack "Patrolman 6" portable took a few minutes
of work to replace the BFO switch(works well), and needs a couple
antennas, but there is an antenna jack in the back. Hooked up to
even just a piece of wire, it is giving good clear reception on
all bands! Very nice little item- I am using it as my shop radio
at the moment. And it allowed me to test my signal generators:
both are working, but my frequency counter is not. Annoying- it
had been working before, and now it is not... And it is a good
Heathkit IC job...
